Arguably, Bale and Hazard had a huge effect on their respective club’s performance although Spurs did not achieve their season target which was to secure a Champions League place, Bale helped them finish 5th which could have easily been taken by Everton. Bale also won 2 awards, PFA player of the year and also PFA young player of the year. He was also 3rd top scorer in the Premier League last season with 21 goals, 2 behind Luis Saurez and 5 behind top scorer Robin Van Persie. Before being established as a recognized forward, he was a very poor left back. Redknapp who was manager at the time, decided to utilize his tremendous pace out to carry out counter-attacks, thus mainly being a left-wing back. When Andre Villa Boas came into management at Tottenham, he pushed him up field to left midfield then eventually to left-wing which is now his position.

Chelsea had mild success this season, by winning the Europa League which gave them their 2nd European success in the 2nd season running, after winning the Champions League the season before. Although Hazard’s goal tally wasn’t as significant compared to Bale, he was one of Chelsea’s star players last season. He made the 2nd amount of assists in the Prem (11) just 2 behind fellow teammate Juan Mata with 13 assists. Last season was the Belgian’s debut season for the London club after making the move from French club Lille, totaling 13 goals and 26 assists.

Hazard has a different playing style to Gareth Bale, he is more of the skilful play-maker whereas Bale is more direct, taking shots from long-range and selfish which isn’t necessary a bad trait to have. Bale has been rumoured recently with a move to Real Madrid, which would make him the 2nd Welshman to play in La Liga. Hazard is one of many Belgian players to join the Premier League. Belgian players have been coming into the Premier League over the last couple of years and are really making their presence known. The similar thing happened with French players coming to England’s top-level. Now some of the best players ever in the Premier League have been French; Eric Cantona and Thierry Henry for example.

I have decided to try to blog daily and my next blog will be about Foreign players in the Premier League.
